2024 Polls: John Dumelo declared NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Ayawaso West Wougon

Actor John Dumelo has been declared the 2024 parliamentary candidate for the National Democratic Congress in the Ayawaso West Wougon Constituency of the Greater Accra Region. John’s aspiration of running the 2024 parliamentary elections on the ticket of the largest opposition was nearly dashed when his close friend and colleague in the cine industry Fred Nuamah expressed his intentions to run for the same seat. However after cross fires and pointing accusing fingers at each other, Fred Nuamah together with a third aspirant Moses Baafi Acheampong decided to withdraw from the race paving way for the 2020 parliamentary candidate John Dumelo to run again in the next elections.

“I urge all my supporters across all levels of the party in the constituency to rally behind John Dumelo and provide him with needed support. Together, with a renewed sense of togetherness, we can secure victory in the 2024 elections and uplift our nation from its current state. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to my numerous supporters at the branch, ward, and constituency levels for their unwavering support, dedication, and affection. I cherish every moment of our interactions and admire the enthusiasm of our grassroots in their pursuit of seeing the NDC and former President John Mahama reclaim political power to better the lives of the good people of Ghana” Fred Nuamah  indicated in a statement

Actor-turned-politician John Dumelo’s dream to represent the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Parliament was crushed after losing to incumbent Member of Parliament Lydia Alhassan of the New Patriotic Party.

Certified results from the Electoral Commission show the NDC candidate poll 37,778 as against Lydia Alhassan’s 39,851. Gifty Botchway of the People’s National Congress (PNC) and independent candidate Richard Amegatse managed 160 and 108 votes respectively. Total valid votes cast stood at 77,604 with 595 being invalid votes.

However in a post on Twitter ahead of his swearing in John Dumelo noted that “ together we will make sure i win the Ayawaso West parliamentary seat for the NDC and also make sure John Dramani Mahama becomes president in 2025”.
