NPP to elect Parl. Candidates for ‘orphan’ Constituencies Starting November

The New Patriotic Party will from September 2023, commence the election of its parliamentary candidates in Constituencies where the party has no member of parliament on its ticket. In line with the roadmap of the governing party, Filing of nominations closed on August 10, 2023 in 137 constituencies across the country which the New Patriotic Party considers as orphan constituencies.

Nominations were opened for parliamentary hopefuls of the party in the orphan constituencies from Tuesday, July 11, 2023 to yesterday, August 10, 2023.

The exercise is expected to proceed with the vetting of parliamentary aspirants who had submitted their nomination forms In a bid to ensure that they meet the requirements for the primaries which will pave way for the party to choose a substantive candidates.

Some names of interested aspirants contesting various ‘orphan’ seats for the NPP across the country include Chief Executive Officer of National Youth Authority (NYA), Pius Enam Hadzide who submitted his nomination forms to contest the Asuogyaman parliamentary seat in the upcoming parliamentary primaries of the party.

In the Okaikwei North Constituency of the Greater Accra Region, Maame Afia Akoto, A former Deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) has joined the race with the aim of winning the seat for the governing party.

The governing New Patritic Party is a dire need for more parliamentary seats given the party’s inability to solely form majority in Ghana’s parliament with 137 law makers who contested on an NPP ticket.
